Deleted Investment in Limbo RRS feed

  • Question

  • I deleted an investment that had no transactions. Or at least I thought I did. The investment has disappeared from everywhere I can think to look for it.

Unfortunately, when I try to create a new investment with the same name, I get an error message telling me the name is being used by a deleted investment.

Is there some additional steps needed to complete a deletion?  Or is there a way to undelete the investment so I can change its name and then reuse the real name?

I am using Money 99 on Windows 7.

  • If you really want to get rid of symbol XYZ, try entering a
dividend for XYZ into the name of the investment; type those three
letters, and then hit Tab.  Choose Dividend.  Note that the name in
the box may have changed.  Finish creating the dividend.

Right-click that dividend transaction, and choose GoToInvestment.  Click
Details.  Whatever that investment is, if the symbol is XYZ, blank
or change its symbol.  If the name is XYZ, Rename it to something
    else.

The symbol XYZ should now be freed up.  Delete the fake dividend.

  • It's not the symbol but the name of the investment, Realty Income Corp, that is associated with the deleted investment.

  • So when you enter O<tab> it does not fill in an investment?

In that case, how about REAL<tab> ?
