  • From the Microsoft website:

"Money 2005 QFE's were traditionally delivered using an in-product download and update mechanism. The infrastructure for maintaining that system has been deprecated."

What? Disapproved of? Protested about? What do they mean?

  • The update had to be requested online by the Money program. It could not be downloaded and applied separately.

    • the update has been removed from the server which supplied it
    • or the server has been taken out of service and not replaced.

  • Well how about that?

Computer folk use a word in a fashion totally divorced from its meaning in English. That should help everyone understand! Let's not grumble we have our patch(ed up) version.

  • Thank you for the link, it has allowed me to get back to square A with my account file opening.

Now the challenge is to migrate to another piece of software since Money is no longer up-dating my stocks and accounts.

We had decided to go with Quicken Premier as it seemed like it would be a simple up-grade to Money Sunset and then an import into QP.  (We thought we had a US version of Money, turns out it is an International version).  So, what to do?  Is there a way to export all the account info etc from Money into another file format that can then be imported into QP that you are aware of?  The QP version I have was just purchased in the US.  I was told by the local Quicken sales people here in New Zealand that they could not import Money with the version they sell as they re-write the software from source code to make it more New Zealand friendly.  Nice, but not helpful.

    Open to suggestions.....

  • See http://quicken.intuit.com/support/articles/getting-started/upgrading-and-conversion/7468.html. You can install the trial version of Money 2008 to convert to Quicken.

You will need to export your data from your existing version of Money as loose qif and import that to the Money 2008 trial. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/178830.

If you use QIF you will lose all your share prices and some other stuff.  If you want to keep your prices (and you mention it as a reason to change) then QIF might not be the way to go.

"you will lose some "extra" information that is stored with categories, payees, accounts, and classes. For example, you will lose budget amounts and tax flag on categories, shortcuts, comments, payee telephone numbers and addresses, and so on."

  • Thanks for letting me know what might be lost.  If this might not be the way to go, do you have any suggestion of a better solution?

  • Thanks, shall have a good read of the info at  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/178830 before going to far.  In a quick reading it looks like I will lose some information regardless so may have to just accept this and print out what I need for manual re-entry in QP.  Thanks again for the help. Will try and tackle this on the weekend.
