Do you want to start the mail merge from within CRM?
If so, you CAN have data in a tabular structure in a Directory Mail Merge.
For single (header like) information, you would have to use the MERGESEQ formula. Like:
{ IF {MERGESEQ}="1" "put al your header information right here" ""}
Now put your table here and throw in the mail merge fields
