Another Office 2007 Not Genuine.

Question
-
It appears that my husband and I are having the same problem regarding our copies of MS Office 2007. The whole suite came ready installed on our laptops from PC World, both laptops were bought within a month of each other 2 yrs ago. Do we have to return our laptops to the store or can we sort the problem ourselves? Here are the results of my diagnostic test:

Hello Alibongo61,
Please understand that the currently installed copy of Office is NOT the trial installation of Office Home and Student 2007 that was on your Toshiba when is shipped from Toshiba to PC World. The current installation of Office is a nongenuine installation of Office Enterprise 2007, an installation that never should have been put on your Toshiba computer by whomever it was that did it.
It is not uncommon at all for computer manufacturers such as Toshiba to include the disc that you found. That means your computer came from Toshiba with a properly licensed installation of Microsoft Works v8.5, which is an inexpensive productvity suite designed for light duty home usage.
The computer also came with a Trial installation of Office Home and Student 2007, and the trial installation was good for 60 days or 25 uses, whichever came first. The purpose of the trial is to allow new computer users a chance to get a free "test drive" of the latest Microsoft Office technologies. If, after the trial period is over, the customer wants to continue to use the Office product, they have to go online and purchase a product key, whcih unlocks the Trial and converts it to a perpetual retail licensed copy of Office Home and Student 2007.
You could uninstall the nongenuine Office Enterprise 2007 and reinstall the Trial of Office H&S 2007, but because the trial period is over, in order to use it, you would have to go online to Microsoft and purchase a perpetual license and product key. If Works v8.5 was uninstalled, you could of course reinstall it and begin to use Works.

Hello Alibongo61,
Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:
OGA Data-->
Office Status: 108 Invalid VLK
Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 - 108 Invalid VLK
Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2007 - 100 Genuine
OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
Signed By: Microsoft
Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-364-80041010_025D1FF3-229-80041010_025D1FF3-230-1_025D1FF3-517-80040154_025D1FF3-237-80040154_025D1FF3-238-2_025D1FF3-244-80070002_025D1FF3-258-3
Note that the report says you have an invalid VLK, which means that (a) your Toshiba computer has a Volume Licensing edition of Office Enterprise 2007 installed, and that (b) an invalid Volume Licensing Key (VLK) was used to install it. An "invalid" VLK is one that was not issued by Microsoft, rather software pirates use a program that reverse engineers the Product Key algorithm and then uses it to generate new "keygen" Product Keys that will install the product but will not pass the latest verion of Office Validation, since they are not Microsoft-generated Product Keys.
The report also tells us that your installation of Visio Professional 2007 is a Volume Licensing installation. If your use of this license is not in association with the business, educational or governmental organization that is the rightful holder of this Volume License, then your use of this product is also nongenuine, regardless of the status reported by the utility.
As an individual consumer you should never have been sold Volume Licensing materials for either Office Enterprise or Visio, such as a VL CD, and you certainly should not have received an invalid Product Key.
Your first course of action is to confront your seller with this information and demand either a full refund or to receive the genuine software you paid for.
If the seller refuses to help, please file a piracy report at www.microsoft.com/piracy. Also, you may be able to participate in the Office Genuine Offer to purchase a discounted replacement copy of office, and depending upon whether you received "high quality" counterfeit materials, you may qualify for the Office Complimentary Offer. Please see the FAQ here: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC To participate in the Office Genuine Offer, please click on the Learn More Online link being displayed on your screen by the OGA Notifications utility.
One other possibility is that at one time your computer did have a Genuine installation of Office installed, but for some reason it was replaced with the current installation which is nongenuine. This could have happened if you took your computer to a repair shop and they reinstalled Windows and/or some or all of your programs. You Get Genuine once again by uninstalling the current nongenuine installation of Office and using your Genuine Microsoft hologrammed Office installation CDs to put back the genuine installation of Office you may have already had on the computer.

Thank you for that. I have now located the discs that came with the laptop, the one referring to MS Office says 'Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 Trial' also on the same disc is Microsoft Works 8.5! I have tried to load the disc, but to no avail. The Product Key on the sleeve all looks genuine, don't want to print it on here for obvious reasons. Does this mean because the disc is a trial, it is now an invalid copy? I think a trip to PC World is called for. Your help is very much appreciated.
Thank You.Monday, November 9, 2009 8:53 PM -
