USB 2.0 drives showing as USB 1.0 RRS feed

  • Question

  • i've just had to do a recovery reinstall and this wierd problem has showed. everytime i plug in a usb 2.0 drive a little dialoge box pops and and tell me to plug the drive into a usb 2.0 port.
it recommends 1 of 8 ports that are under the standard enhanced pci to usb host controller. there are 2 other usb controllers labled "standared open HCD usb host controller" Do these make any differance? i don't know. what i do know is that up 2 a couple of days ago all these functioned okay, then all of a sudden the system will hang after the windows splash screen if the drives are plug in, if i unplug it loads up fine.

  • What operating system?
From what you said, I'm thinking that it's not Windows Home Server (which is what these forums are for; not desktop Windows systems.)

That said, my first thought is that you don't have the proper motherboard-chipset drivers installed (if any at all), and that the USB controllers have reverted to USB 1.0 as a result (that they work at all is amazing.)
