The Key in use here is one that was never issued by Microsoft.
It was created by a hacker’s KeyGen tool.
For what version and edition of Windows is the computer licensed according to the COA sticker on the case?
If it’s for XP Pro, then you may be able to use the Product Key Update Tool to make the system Genuine - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/help/genuine/product-key

  • It is impossible. I have the original sticker with holograms on it. It is OEM software. CD is original too, shiny type. It has part number:X14-72249

  • Not impossible at all - does the Key on your sticker agree with the one in the report (what you can see of it?)

If so, then the disk, sticker, and Key are counterfeits.

can you peel the holoogram off the CD? if so, it's a counterfeit.

  • It is XP PRO by the way....

  • I cannot peel the hologram of the cd. CD does not have the hologram. Hologram is on the certificate of authenticity. CD looks like a hollogram. I have the same looking cd for Office and Windows 7. It is definetelly legit.

Win XP hologram disks do NOT look like the Windows 7 disks – they are 100% holograms with no  ordinary printing.

Again – is the Key on your sticker the same as the one in the report?? If so it IS a counterfeit.

  • my cd is 100% hologram, no ordinary printing. My COA looks exactly as Microsoft describes it.

    • The old COA features two portholes, one in the shape of an ellipse and the second in the shape of the Windows "flying window" logo. The over-laminate has been removed to make it easier to see the individual paper fibers within each of the portholes.
    • The embedded metallic thread includes new color transitions that occur when viewed at an angle.
    • The COA contains microprint—a security feature adopted from currency—that is legible when viewed under a magnifying lens.
    • The COA has been changed to a more rectangular shape.

It also has a description that License for Distribution only with new PC. COA has bar codes, one: 00045-272-812-010 and second one E85-05103.

    CD has part No. X14-72249

    COA has part number X14-01711

  • Yes, it is correct.
    Monday, November 21, 2011 10:02 PM
  • In that case it is definitely a counterfeit.

Darin will be able to confirm it when he gets into the office.

  • I will wait for his confirmation. I still believe it is genuine. I can send you a picture of cd and label if this might help.

  • The Hash does not validate to any Microsoft key. Meaning this Product Key was not created by Microsoft and is Non-Genuine.

As additional proof, you stated: "It is OEM software." but in the Diagnostic Report, the key is listed as "Windows License Type: Volume".  It would appear that whoever you bought the software from sold you a genuine OEM disk with a Non-Genuine (keygen) Volume License key.

    Thank you,

  • I bought it on ebay1 year ago. It is strange it looks genuine and I did not have any issues with activation before.

  • Unfortunately, over half the Microsoft software sold by independent eBay sellers has proven to be counterfeit, non-genuine and worthless.
