Dell PE2950-Not Supported? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is the Dell PE2950 Server supported with WHS?

I loaded the 5i drivers at the (load additional disk drivers prompt) and WHS continued on its path of installation, then after it reported 51 min to completion the BSOD with the following was reported:

    STOP: 0X0000007B

Rebooted and same with new media burnt to new DVD.

Any help appreciated, if the PE2950 ins't on the HCL then i will try a PE2850.

  • I think this issue is described here; check your driver for the 5i to be sure it's the correct windows 2003 one, or try and use a different controller card.

  • Did anyone get anywhere with the installation of this PERC 5i controller?  I have begun to find these *very* affordable used considering other options are more than 2x the cost and will serve up to 8 channels of SATA II or 122 channels of SAS... not a bad choice for storage needs with headroom for growth and can be had for ~$120 + shipping.  My next best option for a minimum of 6+ SATA II drives (this has SAS as well) is an 8-channel Areca for about $400-$520!

I would love to know if this worked out for these reasons.

  • I hit a wall with a PowerEdge 2400.  I tried using a Promise SATA card w/ a SATA DVD and a pair of SATA hdd's, and I couldn't get past the "cannot initialize UI subsystem" message.

  • OK so i saw your other post and iussues and am I correct in thinking this is more mobo/dell related than the PERC 5i card you were attempting to use?  Anyone else using a PERC 5i out there?  I really want to use this solution for nearly all the server's storage minus the boot drive, which I will run off one of my motherboards SATA controllers.

Anyone?  Anyone have a card for testing in the Farifield County CT region? Smile

  • I've had zero luck with a poweredge 2500 with a PERC 3, but I don't have a PERC 5i to test either.  I don't think we are having the same problem though, my install bombs out much earlier with the ol UI subsytem error issue.
