Question

Good Morning...I have been experiencing the same problem with my Office Depot bought HP computer. I just last weekend installed SP1, I know a little late! After it was finished installing and rebooted...the error screen appeared prohibiting me from logging in. i have tried all of the fixes mentioned in this thread and others and really would like to get this fixed as soon as possible. We have dial-up and live in the country, so high-speed is not available. I can not access the internet for solutions. Please Help!!!

Chappy,
Since you can not generate a Diagnostic Report, there is not much I can do, here on the forums, and I would suggest creating a (no cost) support request at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52029 for additional assistance. Also you may have to perform a complete re-installation. As Dan mentioned this will wipe out all of your files. Hopefully you perform regular backups with all your files, pictures, and so forth.
Take care Chappy,

I should have mentioned that I did try the cmd.exe fix and when I rebooted the error message changed to "reinstall windows" I don't have the original CD as this was a store bought computer. The only way currently that I can access my desktop is through Safe Mode.Wednesday, November 19, 2008 3:36 PM

Morning Chappy,
Curious you mentioned experiencing the same problem. Can you please elaborate what exactly the problem is you have been experiencing? This will help us as we analyze what you are experiencing. In order to receive the best support, we request all users to initially run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool (MGADT). This will try and identify the individual issue you may be experiencing. Please provide a brief synopsis describing your customer scenario, including any dialogue or error messages, or codes. Error codes can be found in the lower left hand corner of most Genuine Advantage web-pages when an error is encountered.
By clicking the link below, you will download the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool (MGADT). Then click the Run button. Then click the Run button again. Then click the Continue button to perform the diagnostic. The Windows tab should show, click the Copy button to paste your report to the clipboard. Then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum by adding a post in it and pressing Ctrl V (to paste the text). Clicking the OK button will clear the Diagnostic window. Here is the download link:http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012
Please tell us about the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for your copy of Windows Vista.

4. Please provide the customer scenario you are experiencing.
5. DO NOT post the Product Key.
Not sure what to look for, see this page to reference your COA:
NOTE: The data collected with the MGADT does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you. The information can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.

Sorry it has taken so long to get this info. I am unable to access internet from the computer with the log-in issues, so I cannot download the MGADT. The only computer I am able to use is at work. I hope you can help me without this tool as i've now been down 1 week and I am hoping for quick resolve. As for the other info. you requested:
-Windows Vista Home Premium
-it does read OEM
-Customer Scenario is as follows: last Saturday I downloaded the SP1 update for Vista. Something I hadn't done since I bought my computer from Office Depot over 1 year ago. Upon rebooting the error code 0xc004e002 appeared saying "The software Licensing Service reported that the license store contains inconsistent data". I found a Microsoft Forum Thread that addressed this issue and attempted to follow the following directions given by Darin Smith, WGA:
1) Login to Vista and if a windows pops up, select the option "Use Vista in reduced functionality". If this does not work, log into Vista using safe mode.
2) Type %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing into the address bar of the browser that comes up.3) Rename tokens.dat to token.bak
3) Reboot.
4) Log in normal mode.
5) Open a Browser and type %windir%/system326) A filder will open, scroll down till you find CMD.exe
7) Right Click the 'CMD.exe' file and select "Run as administrator"
8) A window will open with a black background. Type in: net start slsvc
9) Next type in: cscript slmgr.vbs –rilc
10) Reboot computer
11) You may be required to Activate. I suggest using the Activate by Phone method.
Being a novice at computer Technology...there is a good chance that i didn't follow the instructions exactly as necessary, however the steps were a bit confusing as I attempted to go through them ste-by-step on my own computer. Upon following those steps as best as I could, reboot brought up another message saying that I needed to reinstall windows which I am unable to do because a CD was not included in my bundle. I feel stuck and frustrated.Friday, November 21, 2008 4:08 PM -
Chappy 740,
It is possible that you did not follow the steps exactly as presented and that may have caused additional problems that aggravated your situation from "bad" (reduced functionality mode) to "worse" (reinstall your operating system).
At this point, unless Stephen of Microsoft has something up his sleeve that can work miracles :-) it looks like you will have to do a reinstallation of Vista.
Since your computer did not come with reinstallation CDs/DVDs, it's most likely that the manufacturer has provided you with an on-hard-disk Recovery Solution. Please consult the documentation that came with the computer to learn how to to a Recovery of your computer. Or you may wish to call the manufacturer's toll-free tech support phone number for assistance.
In most cases such Recovery procedures destroy the user data that is on your hard disk drive, so before you run the Recovery, be sure to back up and offload any user data (email, pix, docs, music, financial info from programs such as Money or Quicken, etc. etc) that you want to save.
Once your computer has been Recovered, please get online and go to the manufacturer's support pages for your make and model to check for any information that would shed light on why the installation of SP1 might have crashed the computer.
Good Luck!
