Build 7600 error RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just transferred everything from my old hard drive to a newer more spacious one, and on reboot get the error build 7600 not genuine.  I used Norton Ghost to do the transfer.  I cant download and install anything nor will it let me run slui and by this I cant even download and use the diagnostic tool.   Needless to say I am completely stuck.  I cant switch users to administrator so my access is very limited.

  • There were no errors in the transfer.  I may have used Ghost to move the data over, still doesnt explain the fact that I still have the build 7600 issue, and no means of having admin rights.

This can be done using Ghost 15 but some workarounds are necessary. If you want to stick with Ghost (you may need to create another Ghost Image Backup) let me know.

  • I actually don't have the data anymore, because when I booted from the new drive it worked, however when I formatted the old drive is when I got the problem.

  • When I am on the hard drive it doesnt allow me to change or edit anything, when I try to download the tool it just cancels.  I dont have access to basic things like registry edit or even my computer.  I installed again on a different hard drive, and this one allows me access to change or download things, so running that tool is possible now, however will it still get the data you need for the other hard drive?

  • Go ahead and run it.  Paste the result in your reply here.  You won't see anything after you press Copy until you do the Edit/Paste (or Ctrl-V).

  • At this point the report shows an installation of Windows that needs activation.  If this is the hard drive you are going to use for the system, then activate it.  If you need to use phone activation click Start and type 'slui.exe 4' in the Search/Run box and follow the intructions.

If you are going to try to use the other hard drive, you need to reinstall Windows 7 from scratch if you are using a full license.

  • License Status: Initial grace period

How to activate Windows 7 or Vista manually (activate by phone)
    1) Click Start, and in the Search box type:   slui.exe  4
    2) Next press the 'ENTER' key
    3) Select your 'Country' from the list.
    4) Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.
    5) Stay on the phone (do not select/press any options) and wait for a person to help you with activation.
    6) Explain your problem clearly to the support person.
    7) The support person should give you a confirmation ID, copy it down on paper,
    8) Verify the ID is correct by reading back to the support person.
    9) Enter the ID number and click 'Next' to finish the activation process.

Or just do a fresh install now that the backup has been deleted

As to the issue of no admin rights, that is not a symptom of a Windows being flagged as Non-Genuine and would be a separate issue to any non-genuine messages you are seeing.
