Live Writer with Typepad - scheduling posts

  • Hi. I'm just trying Live Writer for the first time. So far, I love almost everything about it. It's so easy to compose and control and the options for formatting photos are fantastic.

    But I'm stuck.

I writer nearly all my posts in advance and schedule them for posting.

I thought I'd be able to write posts in Live Writer, upload them or transfer them to Typepad and schedule them to be posted. Is there a way to do that?

Currently, I have them scheduled within Live Writer. But I don't understand how they'll upload and post from there at the scheduled time. This may sound incredibly stupid and show how I don't understand the program...but...what if the computer I'm using isn't on. How can it upload?

Please help me understand how to proceed...

  • I don't have a Typepad account, but have you tried using the scheduler, in the bottom right corner, as you're composing your posts? Normally, there's an option to set the post date.

At the bottom with categories, tags and post date...

    I hope this helps...

  • As lehenryjr said, use the date/time picker at the bottom right of Writer to choose a specific date you'd like the blog post to show up on your blog. Then go ahead and hit Publish. This will publish the blog post to Typepad, but it won't show up on your blog until the date you specified. Since the blog post is now saved on Typepad, your computer doesn't have to be on at any specific time in order for the post to show up.

  • I tried this, and it published it immediately, despite having been scheduled for next week. I had to delete the post on TypePad, but since then I have been unable to upload a draft of the same post. This is my first day with Live Writer and so far I've had nothing but problems... :( It gets a lot of good buzz online, but if I can't trust it to post scheduled posts it's no help to me at all.

    Any assistance welcome!

  • Just an update on this... I had to delete the whole of the original post, and create it anew, in order for Live Writer to successfully be able to save as a draft. I suspect having deleted the post, this messed up the relationship between Live Writer's local files and TypePad's files.

As a result, I now have a workaround for scheduling, namely 'save as draft then edit', whereupon I manually schedule it for publication on TypePad, which already has received the correct datestamp from Live Writer. It seems to me that this is therefore a bug in Live Writer that needs to be fixed.

    Any commentary welcomed!

  • Hi Only a Game,

Although this seems like a bug in Writer, our team verified that this worked correctly back in September. Considering we haven't changed anything on our end, this is probably a bug in Typepad. We'll follow up with Typepad separately, but you can let them know about your problem by submitting a ticket here:

Please start a new thread for any other Writer problems you're having and we'll try to help you as best we can!

  • Sorry, I was mistaken. Publishing future posts to TypePad has never worked correctly, but it still seems to be a bug on their side. I'm sending them a note right now and hopefully they'll fix the root problem. I'll let you know if this gets fixed.
