SQL Server 2008 Certification

Question
-
Hi,
I had been working for SQL Server 2005 for about 3yrs now as a developer/designer.
I got a chance to design a database using SQL Server 2005 too.
I'm very much interested to learn more and more about SQL. Thought of getting a Microsoft Certification so that I can help my self learn more and put into practice too.
As I'm completely new to this certification arena can anyone please help me to select an appropriate certification for me.
Also let me know how I would benefit from that.
I want to know about certification for SQL Server 2008 and where I can get learning resources and which books to look for and such details.
Thanks,

Hi
You best bet is to start with the MCTS in SQL 2005 which is exam number 70-431 (blog post here), this is a mixed exam in that it covers a bit of DBA work and a bit of Database Developer work. I am suggesting this as you already have a lot of experience in SQL 2005 so this would allow you to get through the material quickly, pick up a few tips and tricks and acquire a certification to add to the experience you posess.
Then you can look at doing one of the three other tracks on 2005 which are (exam amounts are based on your having 70-431)- MCITP Database Administrator 2005 (2 exams)
- MCITP Database Developer 2005 (2 exams)
- MCITP Business Intelligence Developer (2 exams)
Usually you pick one that suits your current job role. If you complete those ones you can do an upgrade exam which is usually a single exam to get you on the next version of the technology. This will allow you time to familiarise yourself with the 2008 platform and the differences between it and 2008.
