Registry Corruption RRS feed

  • Question

  •  I had the Live Mesh Beta working fine syncing to my desktop and laptop computers. Both running Vista Ultimate SP1

The Live Mesh installation on the Desktop suddenly stopped working, and refused to start the service. It is complaining about registry corruption, although the links the help file are giving are related to Windows XP SP2.

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, and it keeps failing.  Erro popup says " Reboot to fix registry corruption [800703F7]

Have tried a system restore, which didn't achieve anything either.  Would appreciate any thoughts and help.

    Regards

    Andy

  • Hi Andy,

In addition to Oren's suggestion above, the Live Mesh team may be able to determine the cause of the problem and help you resolve it if you wouldn't mind collecting your logs and submitting a bug.  Instructions for doing so are in an Announcement at the top of the forums.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • to be honest, the only reference to this on the web seems to be from this blog post, where the suggested fix is (quoted verbatim):

If this really is registry corruption, try using this http://www.css-networks.com/2008/07/recovering-from-windows-registry-hive-corruption-the-smart-way.html manual (requires a second OS in dual-boot or a second PC you can plug your HDD into) to fix it. This is for system hives, to repair the user hive you need to create a second admin user account, log off your main account and use the described procedure with your \Users\your_account\NTUSER.DAT file. As usual - don't forget to back up before doing anything with your registry..
Also, just try installing Live Mesh from a different user account - if it succeeds, you only need to repair your user.dat hive which is easier (and does not require a second OS/PC)

  • I also had that registry problem lately. I cannot install Mesh on this computer (Vista) even though it is running on several XPs at work. I went through some error log postings but frankly, didn't have the time to pursue it for a while. Looks like the error is still around.
