Do you want to add another drive to your laptop? I've never messed with laptops, I don't know if that's possible. If it is, you just boot off the XP CD and when it gets to the appropriate area asking where you want to install it, tell it on the new HD. The new drive letter could be D, E, F, etc, depending on any optical drives you have installed, but it of course certainly won't be C, so stay away from that.
To boot off the CD you can either set your BIOS to boot from the optical drive, or on most PC's F8 or F5 will bring you to a boot menu and you can select the optical drive as the first boot device there.
