OneCare status still green even though "Automatic Updates" haven't been applied RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a group of machines all running OneCare 2.0.2500.10 in a "OneCare circle."  They all show status of "Green" even though they have critical updates which haven't yet been applied and they have "Automatic Updates" enabled and set to restart and the little yellow "Automatic Updates" shield is in the systray. Any explanation for this besides a bug?  Thanks.

  • Automatic Updates and OneCare is a strange relationship. Your status will be green as long as AU is set to download and install updates automatically. It will, however, turn to at risk if a Tune-up runs and OneCare checks the WU catalog and finds a critical or important update not yet installed and will not turn green again until you visit WU to install the update. In you case, AU just downloaded the Patch Tuesday updates from yesterday. I suspect that they will be installed at 3:00 AM tomorrow if you left the default settings and the PCs remain on. OneCare will not be aware of these updates until a Tune-up runs and finds the updates available and not installed.
