windows live essentials - installation fails RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I run XP Pro with SP3.
I am trying to run the installation routine for Windows Live Essentials found at http://download.live.com/.
I download the installer package successfully and then run it after I restart my PC.  No other programs are running before I start the install.
However when I get to about 80% the installation rolls back completely and I get this error message:

"windows live install issue - A network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\INSTALLER\MESSENGER.MSI.  Please close all open programs and then try again. It looks like another program is preventing the installer from working hr: 0x80070643"

But there are no open programs.  I've had this happen 5 times now.

There is a link for more help provided at http://help.live.com/help.aspx?market=en-us&project=wlinstallerv3&querytype=keyword&query=wli80070643&ec=0x80070643 which is completely useless and offers no new information about this problem or solutions.

I've searched online and see others have had the same issue but I can't find any resolution.

If anybody can help I would appreciate that.

    Thanks in advance,

    D

You're off topic for this forum, which is dedicated to Windows Live OneCare.

Support for Windows Live programs and services:

Go to http://support.live.com/ and sign in with a LiveID

Click on the Windows Live service or product you need help with.

If you are not presented with an email support form, but are instead redirected to help.live.com for that service/product, in the page that opens from http://help.live.com/ select any topic on the left hand side or search for a question in the search box.

The results of your search or the clicked topic appears in the right hand frame, along with a tiny link in the lower right hand corner – “Get more help.”

Click that tiny link and you will get to a page with a link “Contact support”

Click that link and you will be presented with the email support form to fill out. Provide as much detail as possible and you should get a response from support within 24 hours.
