how to layout web pages? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am new to ASP.NET and I wonder how to design a web page layout.

For example, I want to move a Listbox to the upper left, a second listbox right beside the first one, and a button at the bottom right.

Do you have to do this by hand using tables or CSS, or is there a technology or a tool to do this?
What is state of the art within the ASP.NET world?

Another question: When designing forms, you often have to group widgets together, surround them with a frame and a caption.
For example, you would create a group "weekday", which contains radio buttons for "Monday", "Tuesday", ...
I tried to do this with asp:Panel, but this does not automatically fit itself around the inner widgets. What's best practice here?

Isn't there a more powerful method? For example, Google Web Toolkit (GWT) provides a powerful xml-based language for defining user interfaces. I am missing an equivalence here...

(Sorry, if this is not a suitable forum. I didn't find one dealing with Web development.)
