  • Hey Jamie,
We have nothing to announce at this time.  Definitely add this to the Wish List though so that others can vote on it.

    Thanks!

  • Out of curiosity, Jamie, what would you want to Sync with WHS? Specific Shares or folders within the Shares? Interesting concept...

I would use it for same reason I would it for anything else - as a repository for backups and sharing.  Have access to files from inet, etc.  I would keep my QB files backups and OA backups and VS projects (100s) and music, documents, leases, etc.  In my case, not sure I need/want a WHS.  I would use a Vista machine and use the Media Center for the TV and Music stuff and the HD as a network storage device and backup.

Probably the whole shares. I'd like everything to live up in the cloud as well as on WHS and wherver else. A "belt-and-braces" approach if you like.

That's why one of my other requests on the Wish List is for a premium offering where I can pay to store lots of data in the cloud.

There has been talk on here about a 'stand-alone' version of Mesh, kind of like for business use or files you want to mesh on your network, but not in the public cloud. What I could see is a version of Mesh that resides on the WHS with a plug-in to the WHS console. The 'live desktop' would be accessible from the internet through the console also.

  • Simple reasoning: WHS is always on, meaning syncing can happen anytime. My vista machine isn't always on, and syncing only occurs during the periods it is on.

This particularly becomes an issue when other members are in your mesh and want files synced, I don't want to turn on my Vista PC just for them. (NB: I'm talking about syncs that exclude the Live Desktop)

  • This would be a really useful feature for me.

Currently I use Synctoy to synchronize my "Documents", "Pictures" and "Music" folders between my WHS and desktops/laptops.

If there was a Live Mesh add-in for WHS I could ditch Synctoy and synchronize my data via the cloud. Suddenly I gain an offsite backup and also the ability to synchronize on the road. Great!!
