Cant copy Production to sandbox for a database over 100gb

Question
-
We have a CRM online database which is just over 100gb and want to copy the customisations to the sandbox but the option is greyed out. It says to contact support which we did and they say they cant support DB's over 100gb in this way... has anyone else experienced this or know how to do a copy without having to manually do it?
Thanks

I'm not aware of a limit but have you checked how much storage you have purchased? (in the CRM web app, Settings | Administration | Resources in Use)
Any storage you have applies to all instances so if for example, you have purchased 120G and your production db is 100G then you can't copy it to the sandbox.
Did you select the minimal copy option?
Another option might be to spin up the sandbox and in the production export the default solution and then import this into the sandbox (or perhaps create another solution with just the entities that you have customized). Of course this only copied customizations and not data.

there is 17gb of free space and the minimal copy which is what we want is only 0.45gb the last time it was run.. seems odd Microsoft wont allow you to do it.

Indeed. I would call support again and ask to escalate the issue. Especially if you are doing a minimal copy.Wednesday, June 17, 2015 3:05 PMModerator

I did exactly that and are awaiting their response, they didn't sound to hopeful yesterday though.
