  • Hi Stephen,

    1) Thanks for reply. First off, you may call me Timothy, Tim or Odiewoof with an "e".

    2) Its ok with my proxy server - thats the ISP proxy. It runs thru a local proxy too. I know what i am doing, either case, i did a 3rd reinstallation w/o the proxy server (Proxomitron FYI) and it did not work either. (Actually i have installed for more than 50 systems with the same type of setup, never encountered problems before).

    3) The link you have provided (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851.If) is not valid, i guess its just your wrong link. I have relinked to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851 and well, it does not work.Why? I am from Singapore, and the toll free nos provided are for bulk vol activations only. Mine's not.

    4) As i have always activated my products online and not thru the phones, and i do it usually in the wee hrs of the nite / 2 3 am, u can see why no phone calls will be helpful.

    5) Advise from here pls?

    Did you receive any error codes whatsoever after you tried to activate? Also I noticed your running a proxy server. Please turn off all proxy servers, temporary shut down 3rd party firewalls etc then try activation again. Also below are instructions for telephone activation.  Please post back and let us know what happens and if you see any error codes please include them as well. 

     

     

     

    Please activate Windows XP by calling a Microsoft customer service representative. The Activation Wizard displays the toll free number that you can dial.

    To contact a Microsoft customer service representative and activate Windows by phone, follow these steps:

    1. Click “Start”, point to” All Programs”, point to “Accessories”, point to” System Tools”, and then click “Activate Windows”.
    Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the notification area.

    2. Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now.

    3. Click “Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement”, click “Back”, and then click “Next”
    .
    4. Follow the steps in the Activate Windows by phone dialog box and then click “Next”.
    Note:  The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.

    5. Once activation is completed and you receive the following message, click “OK”.
    You have successfully activated your copy of Windows.

    Also you may reference the following site for various telephone activation centers:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851.If you are done with the activation, kindly proceed in validating the copy of your software by going to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine .  Click “Validate Windows” button.
