Hibernate facility on XP RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have just completed a clean install of XP on my Compaq Presario 2500 laptop, and installed SP 2 and 3.  Before this I was able to hibernate, now I cannot.  Power Options does not have a hibernate button at all, and does not give either Hibernate or Stand By, as options for what is to happen when I close the lid.  The turn off button on the start menu initially had Stand By grayed out, and Shut Down and Restart live, with no hibernate button.  I have since done a registry edit sourced from support.microsoft which has put a hibernate key in front of the Stand By key, but it is still grayed out.  I have seen a mention of a possible problem with ACPI implementation with a clean install.  Could this be the cause, and if so, how to fix it.  The installation disk was supplied with the computer when purchased.  Can anyone help please.  Grace Bragg
