I was able to turn down my external hard disk through registry in windows 7, similar to how Windows XP turn off USB devices. However, it takes some time before the hard disk stops spinning after Safely Remove. I noticed in Mac OS and Linux, unmounting the hard disk, stops the spinning instantly and park the heads. What would be the reason behind this? It is possible to do some registry edit with windows 7, so that it stops my external hard drive at instant? sorry for bad english, good day!
