Vista Activation Problem - Diagnostics Inc. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, Im currently trying to sort out my foster sisters laptop which she recieved from a group called Stone (Laptop is actually made by the company Stone). I think there was a problem somewhere down the line with a major virus and the whole thing had to be wiped clean. When i got to it there was XP installed (not genuine) and her laptop was built for Vista (so the sticker says).

So i asked a friend if he had a copy of the Windows Vista Business OEMACT, which he did, so i used it so i could use the license and it worked for quite a while, but now its appeared with This copy of Windows is not genuine. So i tried to enter the key again, but to no avail "Computer said Nooo".

So i follwed the instructions to use the automated phone system and got the code up etc.. entered it and it told me it was invalid. So im really not sure what to do.. im not really experienced with all this and would really like some help. I hope the diagnostics can help with my situaion. Thank You very much! :)

  • I have also tried this solution.. but now my confirmation key wont even register on the automated sysytem.

The Diagnostic Report suggests that Vista's Licensing Store may be corrupt (or it's data is messed up in some way). Please try the below steps to recreate the Store and it's data.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.

Note: If you have access to the Start Button, you can skip steps 1 and 2 and just click the start button and type: cmd.exe into the search field.

    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    5) Type: net stop slsvc   (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    11) Restart your computer twice.
    12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate.

However i did speak to a phone rep (twice actually) and i now have the technical support number. Ill give them a ring a little later.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
