    I am using Mail Merge quote entity. There is a text area field in item with something like following value “abc    def”. After mail merge, in the new document, this value becomes “abc def”. All spaces are replaced with one space. Any clue why? And how can I change this behavior?

    I don't think you are going to be able to control the blank space issue unfortunately.  You may need to look at a different way to achieve what you are trying to do with Mail Merge like using an e-mail template or something.  The other potential option is to allow the reduced space.
