Can't reply in new forums with Opera RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm mostly a lurker but I try and do my bit when I think I can.

Now, it was a little bit funky on occasion before, but with the new update, I can no longer Reply to posts in Opera (9.63). I switched to IE (8) and it seems to work alright there.

I do use IE (and Firefox) but as a matter of routine I have Opera open on my portrait monitor (which is a better format for 99% of what I do) and that is where I do most of my browsing. IE opens on my landscape monitor and mostly wastes a lot of space and requires me to scroll; for the moment clearly I will have to reply to current threads using IE but I am not really inclined to get involved with new threads unless I can work with them in Opera.
    Enjoy, Tony

  • I'm clearly not very good with asking questions! I should, perhaps, say what happens in Opera.

When I click on "Reply", the Reply box opens at the bottom of the screen and I can compose my reply. The font looks like TNR - it certainly isn't the clean font of the rest of the page. When I click on "Submit", or "Cancel", the page just locks up and I have to use, say, the browser "Back" function to get going again. Nothing gets submitted.

  • These forums have a long-standing tradition of not supporting Opera.

  • I am assuming by your post that this is Opera on Win? Once we get the major functional kinks out, I'm thinking I'll try to live on the forums with a different (but common) browser each day and where possible make it better. This will be a long process given priorities of other issues, but over time hopefully you'll see some improvement. FWIW I spend most time now in IE7,IE8 and FF3.

  • Hmm, I edited that post, giving a link to a search query.  Please add "editing posts doesn't work" to the bug list.  Back-end problem again?

  • Thanks, Rob,

Yes, Opera on Win. Sorry to hear it may be a long process - by then I may have switched from Opera!

Just as a BTW, I installed Opera 18 months or so ago when developing my own website (having previously had it and not found it compelling) and the single factor that makes me keep it as default is the 'Speed Dial'.

  • Thanks, Hans,

Sorry to say, that does not surprise me at all. But it is good to know it's nothing I'm doing (apart from using Opera).

Although it is, I suppose, a niche browser, my guess is that usage of Opera (and Firefox) in this sort of community is likely to be higher than in the population at large.
    Enjoy, Tony

  • Most recent numbers I've seen for us say IE + FF = 92% combined.
