Firewall & Virus protection

Question

I can't get my firewall and virus protection to work. Everytime I follow the directions the fw and vp work as long as I'm on line, but as soon as I turn off my computer they cease to work and I can't restart the programs

ernestine,
Is the warning you are receiving from OneCare or the Windows Security Center? Do you do anything to turn the firewall and antivirus on or does the warning go away after a moment or so? Is you OneCare status green after the warning goes away? If so, then what you are seeing is the warning from the Windows Security Center because many programs are loading at startup and the Security Center has not yet received notification from OneCare that it exists and is running. The services are up and running early, but the interface is not yet up at that point.
If the warning is from OneCare, and your OneCare status is red, then you should contact support.
Are you using the 2.0 beta? If so, support for 2.0 Beta - http://help.live.com/help.aspx?project=onecarev2 - use the "Get More Help" link in the lower right of the page to contact support via email.
And, please file a bug on Connect: https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=168
See the Bug Submission Guide - http://connect.microsoft.com/content/content.aspx?ContentID=3480&SiteID=168 - for details on how to create and submit the Support Log zip file with your bug.
If you are using the released version, 1.6, support for v1.6 is via the information here - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1183038&SiteID=2

I'm sorry you were taking OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS just to get an answer to your question. I was also having the same problem and I thought coming here would provide the solution but it only created more questions. I don't understand why the need to ask questions as a solution. I'm thinking if you knew what version of Virus protection you had you would be able to figure it out for yourself. I do understand your frustation *lol* @ the all caps... *tsk Steve* Anyways all I did was uninstall the virus protection and then re-installed it. Just make sure you have the product key and/or serial number available just incase you may have to refer back to it. NOW, I hope that helped you.Tuesday, October 9, 2007 8:26 AM

Uninstalling and reinstalling is what I refer to as the "hit it with a hammer" solution. I won't recommend that until I understand the problem. Answering without understanding the situation would be foolish, hence my advice to contact support rather than go through the forum for technical support issues. While the forum can be quite helpful for known issues or to share solutions for an issue, tech support is provided for OneCare subscribers and should be utilized as needed. Frustration? My response would be the same with all caps or not.
You don't need to product key or serial to reinstall, you need the LiveID that was used to initially subscribe. The product key/serial would only be useful if you needed to contact support due to a failure to activate if the LiveID is forgotten.
