Installing CRM 2011 Client for Outlook 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

This is a common scenario I've been facing while installing CRM 2011 client for Outlook 2010 and may be because it's a little special case.

I'm trying to install CRM client for Outlook over the VPN (connected to the domain where CRM is installed) and I am constantly receiving the following errors:

    1. Installation of Microsoft .NET framework failed.
    2. Installation of Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition failed.

To overcome the first error I installed Microsoft .NET framework 4.5 manually by downloading it from the internet. Now when I've done that, the second issue pops up and I've not been able to overcome that error. I've noticed this with 2 PCs I'm trying to install the client on.

Your expert advise will be greatly appreciated. If any further information is required for this to be diagnosed, please let me know. I shall provide you with the same.

    Thank you,

PS: I've installed CRM client for Outlook on PCs that were in the domain (not over the VPN) and I faced no issues at all.

  • Hi Gagandeep,

Try to download and install it manually.  To download the installation file, use this link http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5783

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Minal,

I forgot to mention that I had also gone further to do this manually. But then I received another error:

Failed to open XML file C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config

When I tried to install .NET framework manually, I received a suggestion asking me to use Turn Windows Features On or Off.

And I couldn't find .Net framework 2 in the feature list. I'm using Windows 7 Enterprise Edition. It wasn't even there in Programs and Features list for me to be able to uninstall it. But I din't even find it there.

So I am still stuck at, Now what?

@Gaurav : I'm not using CRM online and my issue was really something else. Thanks for your input though.

  • Hi Gagandeep,

Installation issue and connecting to CRM issues are different, so you dont need to mention the VPN for installation of Outlook client in your windows 7 PC.

I suggest you to post the Log file.

Its true that you don't need to install the .net framework 2.0 as it comes with the windows and it will not display in programs and features to remove or repair it.

  • Hi Gagandeep,

Manually install the .Net Framework 4.0 and install the outlook client.

I know you mention as you prompted for Turn Windows Features on or off.. Turn on Windows Features as you are using the Windows 7 Personal PC.

From logs its clear that setup file is failing at installation of .Net Framework.
