Windows 7 Pro on my computer 2 ½ years and LAST NIGHT TOLD NOT GENUINE!!! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

In late July 2010 I installed a full retail boxed edition of Windows 7 Pro I purchased on eBay.  Which I understand to avoid to be safe: lone Key sales, OEM disks, lone disk withoug boxing, etc. on auctions.  When I received, I did the MS recommended checks, made sure the halogram labels did not peel on the disks. The little string is still pulled/streched and hang from the case blue and white seal.  The license key is inside the case on a yellow & white sticker, etc.  Boxing looks just like boxing in Wal-mart.  When received I installed, it activated and have been doing Windows updates since.  Now this is 2 ½ years ago...DID I SAY THAT LONG...YES!!!

I installed a replacement 750mb Zip drive yesterday, and some new software that required .Net Framework 4.0 yesterday.  After that my desktop background turned black and down in the right hand corner it says: Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine.  I rebooted last night and got a popup that said error code 0XC004C003.  Did some searching on forums and found I should use the MGAD tool and post findings here.  I shut down every night and this morning at boot up I got a different error code: 0XC004F200.

What really bugs me is that Microsoft does not protect us the consumers. And I absolutely do not blame Ebay.  I blame Microsoft. Had I been warned that this was not the full retail version I had purchased, I would have done the best I could to help Ebay get scum sellers off of Ebay.  But noooooooo, when I put in my Lic. Key, I was not asked was this copy in a Full Retail Box, or pre-installed on my computer, or any other triggers that may have helped determine it was not genuine.  You Microsoft, sell this product, make lots of money to donate to all kinds of charities, but what do you do to protect your customers when they submit their license codes????  This makes me very angry as this is the second time Microsoft has done this to me.  I operate on a shoe string budget like many home owners do, and I will use coupons, auctions, discount codes when received, etc. to get by.  But when I buy MS anything, I expect a quality license code that will have immediate protection!  Why is that not provided with todays technology?  If it was, we all could help put a stop to the pirates.  This is rediculous that my software would get earmarked after 2 ½ years of use and updates from MS.

I'M SURE A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE FEEL THE SAME WAY.  MICROSOFT IS NOT PROTECTING US LITTLE GUYS FROM THEIR PIRATED SOFTWARE!!

Here is my dignostic tool report, which I understand is not worth the manure stuck on by boots, because MS did not warn me at installing the license key, ON DAY ONE, that this may not be a genuine copy:

  • Unfortunately, between the time you purchased your copy of Windows 7 Professional and when the license was flagged as non-genuine, Microsoft found out the license actually was taken/pirated from a not-for-resale MSDN Subscription account.  That is why it is not a good idea to purchase software from individual sellers on eBay.  Please feel free to submit a confidential Counterfeit Software Report and you may qualify for a complimentary genuine edition of Windows 7 directly from Microsoft.

From your report: Windows Product ID: 00371-221-1858033-86844 (the 221 indicates the product key originated from a MSDN Subscription account).
