Are you using BitDefender, Symantec Endpoint, or Avast? (most likely candidate – BitDefender)

They appear not to be compatible with the RTM (or SP1) release of Windows Vista.
You need to uninstall it, then update Vista to SP 2 level using Windows Updates, then reinstall your anti-virus.

  • The time stamp does coincide with when I installed Symantec.  I'll uninstall and reinstall after SP2.  Thanks.
