Complicated Live ID problem

Question
-
1. Purchased new Toshiba A300/U01 laptop ('PC1') which came preinstalled with trial copy of OneCare. Created new Live ID ('ID1') and activated OneCare.
2. Two days later, returned PC1 and purchased another similar laptop ('PC2'). Activated OneCare with ID1 on PC2.
3. Used "RemoveMachine.exe" on PC2.
4. Created another Live ID ('ID2') and tried to reactivate OneCare. Unsuccessful.
5. Attempted to reactivate OneCare with ID1. Unsuccessful.

Go to http://billing.microsoft.com and sign in with LiveID #1, which is the one for your original subscription and verify the status of the subscription.
Basically, the steps to take would have been:
1. Return the PC #1 to the store
2. Install OneCare to the new PC
3. Activate with LiveID #1 which is your subscription LiveID.
4. Make the PC a hub, select the "ghost" entry for the PC that was returned and click the link to remove it from the subscription.
I can only guess that you are not signing in to activate with LiveID #1, the subscription ID, when trying to activate on the new PC. If the subscription shows up correctly on the Billing site for LiveID #1 and you have indeed been trying to activate with that LiveID, I would recommend contacting support.

Why did you perform step 3?
Step 4 will not work as your subscription was already activated on ID1.
What happens when you try to activate with ID1? Messages? Errors?

Hi Steve
I undertook step 3 because PC1 was already returned to the vendor and I wanted to take it out of the three-PC subscription circle. I wanted PC2 to be reactivated with OneCare with a new LiveID which I could use on another two other computers.
When I tried to reactivate OneCare on PC2 with either ID1 or ID2, I was taken to the payment site.
Thanks and regards
Fred
