A-Squared FP results in Vista crash & recovery = invalid/not genuine Vista! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Well...the title says it all.  Recently I ran A-squared Free on my Toshiba A135 w/ Vista Home Premium 32-bit.  I had the settings to automatically delete any determined threat (BIG, HUGE mistake).  It detected 6 problems and deleted them all...then Vista crashed.  It would not recover without using my Vista Home Premium Replacement Disc w/ Service Pack 1 (which I had just received weeks earlier to solve corrupted driver errors when nothing else would help SP2 install)!!!  After using the disc not once, but twice!, it finally recovered so I could enter Windows (which was a big deal since it took an act of congress to boot from the disc to get it to work w/o entering Windows in the first place!).  Unfortunately, my computer now shows that my version of Vista is not genuine.

After some thought, I opened the A-squared free program and recovered the lost files.  No luck.  I still get the Build 6002 error that Windows is not genuine.

I read other posts on here and did the %windir%\system 32..rename tokens.dat etc fix.  Now its gone from Windows online validation program being unsure if my copy is geniune to being outright sure that it isn't.

I've also done the slui.3 (whatever that was) fix.  I have not done the slui...4 thing.

Truly I would love to just turn back time and uninstall Asquared Free, but obviously that is not an option to me.  Can you help???

  • Hello Aly0Kat,

In your first Diagnostic Report, the only issue I saw was that Vista needed to be Activated by Phone.  In the 2nd Diagnostic Report Vista appears to be fully Activated and Validated as Genuine.

For the background, a reboot usually fixes the issue, but you may need to reset the background picture manually.

    Thank you,

  • Ok, freaky, but I tried to go online and validate it again...this time using Explorer rather than Firefox and it validated.  After rebooting I no longer get the error message and when using the MGDAT tool again, it shows my copy is genuine...see below.

So...does that mean that this is resolved now?  or should I wait for my system to have another hiccup and go crazy again???  Got my fingers crossed.  Don't know why it matters or what is wrong.  Obviously something is still out of whack that it wouldn't work even with the add on tool (verified installed correctly) with Firefox.  At any rate, guess you can close this out (hopefully permanently)!  BTW, background is still all black from 6002 error...but message no longer appears.  Is that normal?

    Thanks.
