Lost MotherBoard on WHS RRS feed

  • Question

  • I lost my MotherBoard on my WHS (Gigabyte & Intel Pent 4) and wanted to switch to ASUS with an AMD. After trying many things (Re-install - etc) I always came to the same point -- Register system with MS. That is my problem - the OS is an OEM that I purchased from Newegg (even though the WHS was only up and running 9 months before going belly-up). I know what OEM is - it is tied to the system and I changed. To get around this, I just bought another License from New Egg. My old boot drive was OK and after re-install I was still asked for CD key - CD (everything replaced except boot drive and two 1Tb data drives - didn't loose data though).
My question is this ---  Was there anyway to use my old License Key?
I do not want to throw another $100.00 out the window if I have the same luck again.

Yes. You use telephone activation instead. Microsoft has been very understanding about the need to reinstall after a motherboard replacement.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
