Rollup 15 did not "take" RRS feed

  • Question

  • We were on rollup 7 and I installed rollup 15 last night (Server and Router). All went well, no errors or problems and it required me to reboot after the Server update and the Router update. This morning I checked Help and About and the version still says we are on rollup 7. Any ideas what I could be missing?

  • Hi,

Try verifying the CRM installed components version as mentioned the Knowledge Base Artice: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946594

  • Thanks Jehanzeb Javeed.  I checked those and the version still says 4.0.7333.3.  Can I install the rollup again, and if so, what would I need to do differently?

  • Hi,

I would suggest you to take the full system backup including (Database and other files) and recommended approch is before proceeding with prudciton server installation or try restoring the production backup into the test, install on test first and then install on production.

  • That would be ideal, but we do not have a test environment, we only have our live production server.

  • Then take full system backup and proceed.

  • OK, and just to make sure there is nothing special I need to do, correct?  I have the EXE's on the server and am logged in as an administrator (which I have used in the past to apply rollups).  I just double click the EXE and follow the prompts.  Seems pretty simple but I want to make sure I am not missing anything.

  • Hi,

Yes, you do not require to do anything special for installing the Update Rollups.

  • Do I need to stop the MS CRM services prior to installing the Rollup?
    Friday, July 8, 2011 2:15 PM
  • Only if you want to prevent a restart for the server. Because UR18 ist out you should install this. All UR are cumulative, so you can just deinstall an reinstall them. A backup is for safety but mostly you don´t need it.

  • OK, I just looked at the Event Viewer on the server and noticed I had a bunch of "Informational" events with wording similar to this:

Product: Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server. The file C:\Program Files\Microsoft CRM\Server\bin\CrmAsyncService.exe is being held in use by the following process Name: CrmAsyncService , Id 4228.

Does this mean these files did not get updated?

  • It means after ur installation you´ll need a server restart. They could not update while CrmAsyncService is using them. So just restart the server and they are updated

  • Hi,

Try restarting the Service instead of Restart the server or do reset IIS (Type IISRESET in command prompt)

  • We feel that UR15, since it has been out longer, is more stable than UR18.  Is this thinking incorrect?

  • Hi,

It is not always recommended to install the latest RollUp, you should install RollUp as per problems that you are facing into deployment and that has been resolved into the Rollup. With installing Rollup you may face issues sometime depending on the production environment, customizations etc.

  • @Jehanzeb: In every rollup so far there was always one fix you could find which it was worth installing. I had more issues not installing latest rollups than comparing problems against issues solved in a rollup. And even more there are fixes for issues you might have not found in your environment so far.

you´re right - it´s not recommended, but so far I can tell - I had more benefits installing latest rollups then not

  • It ended up that the rollup was actually successful and there is just a glitch in the IE CRM Help and About screen.

  • Hi,

I am glad that your problem is solved, i was suggesting youy the same to verify the CRM version as mentioned in Microsoft Knowledgebase Article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946594) instead of from IE CRM Help and ABout Screen,
