"Sudden" (30 day) validation error of Vista RRS feed

  • Question

  • I bought a new computer shortly after the release of VISTA.  Other than the expected diminished field of ready to run drivers and programs, I had no problems until 30 days had elapsed and the "not genuine" label plus limited operation genie showed up.  Bluntly, I had to reinstall VISTA from the hidden partition.  What I learned during the process and in subsequent readings was that the vendor (HP) had installed a pre-release VISTA which had time expired.  The 30 day lapse before I saw failure was the MicroSoft grace period.  The apparent solution of inserting the provided OEM license didn't work since the license code is for a non-pre-release.  So I would urge anyone that buys VISTA now (first quarter of 2007) to "recover" the OS before actually using their new and shiney computer, otherwise you maybe recovering it in thirty days.
