Faulty Motherboard RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

I am Kelvin, a customer of HP. I got a Compaq Presario SR1960AP desktop last December, so I qualified for the Vista  (Home Premium) upgrade. I've been a happy user of Vista for the past 7 months but recently there was a surge in my house and the motherboard was fried. Since I had added new components to my system, my warranty no longer covers it. If I were to replace my motherboard with the ones from brands like ASUStek or MSI, will I have to purchase another license?

  • Yes, unless you purchase an exact motherboard replacement from HP.  The HP Windows Vista license is tied to an HP motherboard's BIOS.  Without an HP motherboard BIOS, you'll no longer be able to activate the HP Windows Vista license.
