Network/Wireless link dropping during logon RRS feed

  • Question

  • Whenever I log into an account from the welcome screen (whether I'm logging back into the account I was in or if I'm switching users), the network connection is dropped and then goes through being reassociated, reestablished and getting the IP back again.

This is managing to kill streaming music from the local server and is making it very difficult to login using Remote Desktop or VNC.

Is there a way to tell xp that the existing connection is the perfect one, and it doesn't need to go through all the reestablishment nonsense?  Or someway of telling xp to not even check the network when I'm just changing accounts?

I'm using XP Home and a Wireless connection.  It is actually a TP-Link TL-WN353G(D) card, but XP recognizes it as a: Realtek RTL8185 54M Wireless LAN.  I'm using all the most current updates I can find (adapter driver is Realtek 5.1107.514.2008, dated 14/05/2008).

    All ideas would be appreciated.

    Thank you.
