SATA Card RRS feed

  • Question

  • Just installed a silicon image SIL 3114 card into my server to expand the storage. Via  C7 1.5 GHz chip on micro axt board.

Doesn't recognise samsung 1Tb disk, had to swap around and plug into motherboard to allow machine to boot. Not a WHS problem, probably a bios update or similar needed. Anyone else found a problem and sorted it, or do I have to look into it?

  • I know there have been some compatibility problems with Samsung drives and various chipsets (mainly Nvidia). You may want to ask the manufacturer of that card for any such issues, maybe they have a firmware update.

  • As the SIL 3114  has RAID capabilities, did you either use the non-raid drivers, or ensure it's set up with JBOD disks?

Silicon Image website has quite a few different drivers available. I have used the 3112 version, (non-Raid), with the same drives with no problems whatsoever.
