  • George,

First purchase a new CD/DVD Rom player for your computer since the older unit has apparantly failed. You may pick one up on the internet for a fair price such as http://www.newegg.com . Next re-install Windows XP SP2 again. There will be options available where you do not have to reformat but install over the top of the old. Keep in mind though it is always best to perform a through installation as well as reformatting the disc but the other alternative is available for you.  Hope this helps.

    Thank you,
