Synctoy 2.0 - Virtually standing still RRS feed

  • Question

  • Running XP Prof 32bit, started synctoy for 1st time - extern hdd to ext hdd via dell desktop pc on USB 2.0 ports, all went well for first 3 folders (using contribute), then on 4th folder its been running now for more than 24 hours (and it still runs, just very slowly) and only 36% complete - folder is only 9GB! Im transferring all photos from old hdd to new hdd.  Any advice, suggestions please?

  • Hi -

We know that the first sync is always expected to be slower than subsequent sync's and it is hard to understand exactly why yours might be even slower than it could perform. We have had people on this forum report sync'ing larger datasets successfully in much shorted times. It probably is slow just because of doing the sync over two USB 2.0 ports.

    Thanks

  • Hello,

From what I have seen (tested), doing a backup of a lot of small files on a USB2 drive is really slow (even without Synctoy). Personally, I prefer to zip the files and copy the zip on the UBB drive
