CRM2011: Advice Needed... Send Item to a Queue or Send a Task on its behalf? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Everyone

I just need a little bit of advice on best practice queue management. I have an entity once filled in needs to be assigned to another part of the business for processing. So I've created a 'Processing Queue' and made the entity queue enabled.

But now I'm a little hung up whether to send the entity to the queue via a queue item, or create a task and send that to the queue instead.

I guess with a task I'm building up an audit trail of the history of the item, but is there any other reason why a task would be better than the item itself?

    Many thanks

  • Guess your custom entity is activity enabled also and you won´t have a field on your entity telling the user what comes next?

Then you should assign your entity to the queue and also create an activity telling the user what comes next to edit the recordset/process.

If you have those design questions think of a queue as an archive-folder/container. You can put in documents (recordsets), but no one would know what comes next, until you find a task or anything else telling what comes next. Of course you can monitor those containers and telling the users they should keep an eye on them, but will this happen? On a regular basis?

A better way would be to help the user to arrange their work items.

    Hope this helps
