Error Message in SyncToy - Cannot read from the source file RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm getting this error message: "Error : Cannot read from the source file System Volume Information\. Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

The operation is an Echo from internal HDD to external HDD. The version is SyncToy 2.0 on Windows XP Pro SP3.

What does it mean?  What should I do?

    Thanks!

  • Hi fellow,

This is a common issue. To sync with any version of SyncToy, you should make sure that SyncToy have enough permission to access the left folder and right folder. If this issue comes again, try if running SyncToy as Administrator can resolve your issue.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Danish,

    Thanks for your speedy reply.

This is a new problem, I've been using SyncToy for many months without problems.  But this most recent attempt to sync created the error message.

I'm the only user on this computer and always logged in as an administrator.  What else should I check to allow SyncToy enough permission?

    Regards,

    Dave

  • How do I make sure that SyncToy has sufficient permission? I am having the same problem trying to sync files in my profile. I have tryed synchronize, echo, and contribute all with the same results.

  • I expanded clicked on show errors, expanded the error and saw that the file was in use by another user, In my case I had Firefox open and was trying to update Zotero files. After closing Firefox. The backup went without a hitch.
