Windows Activation Issue - "not a genuine copy"

Question
-
To whomever it may concern:
I own a retail version of Ultimate edition x64. In the last 24 hours, I have been getting a window which claims that my version is not valid. Clearly the window is in error. I have both the original holographic DVD and activation code and have been running this OS for about 2 years trouble-free.
If you can be of any assistance, I would be grateful.

The common cause for these mismatches is a faulty Intel Rapid Storage Tech driver
Download and install the latest version from....
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730
then run another MGADiag report and post the results.

Carey:
Thank you for you assistance. As it turns out, the Intel Rapid Storage Driver did not fix the problem. In the end, I did a complete re-installation of the OS, in part because this particular computer is critical. However, I believe I successfully "patched" the OS on the affected computer but then did the reinstallation just to be safe. Perhaps this will be helpful to you or to somebody else.
Steps to repair / patch the OS:
1. Printed out list of "tampered files".
2. Went to different machine running W7 Ultimate and copied the "tampered files" to a thumb drive.
3. Booted my affected computer using a Windows Repair CD and opened the command prompt.
4. Used the DOS copy command to overwrite the "tampered files" with the good files on the thumb drive.
5. Deleted the prefetch cache (although I don't think this was necessary I wanted to be safe)
6. Changed directories to C:\Windows\Winsxs and used the dir /s <filename> command to find each of the affect dll files and replaced them with the dll from the thumbdrive
On reboot, everything worked fine. No validation complaints.
Thanks for your assistance Carey.

M. O'Brien

For what it's worth, replacing the mismatched files is almost certainly not the solution - the error codes do not indicate a problem with the files themselves but with the references in the registry, or the permissions to the files.
If the files themselves have problems, then the situation is likely to be far more widespread, as that list of files is the entire list monitored by the Software Protection Platform.
