Stumped - Money File Won't Open RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hope someone can help me with this.

I recently installed the MS Money Deluxe Sunset edition and then opened / converted my (M16 - Home & Business) money file. No problem so far. Then I did about 1 hour's worth of updating in a couple investment accounts. Nothing complicated - buying, selling, adding / removing shares, transferring between accounts.

Everything seemed fine. Closed ok to the best of my knowledge.

Then I wanted to open it again a few minutes later to work on some other accounts and it just freezes when opening the file. No home screen. I've waited several minutes just in case.

I've opened another file and then set the Home Page to the Accounts list. (I'd seen somewhere that having the Home Page set to the Summary can cause issues due to the portfolio.) I also did a Standard (level 2) repair on the file where the log showed it fixed records in the Bills table.

But, it still didn't open. :-(

So, I tried to repair again. Still nothing. I've got a backup I can use but my fear is I'll end up back at the same spot since I don't know what caused the issue and I'd be repeating what I did before.

Any other ideas appreciated - thanks!

  • You are doing the right stuff.

I would try opening money by right-clicking the launch icon, and choosing RunAsAdministrator.

If that works, but later you cannot get in without running as administrator, there is probably a cure for that too.

When Plus converted, it kept a copy of your Money 2006 file as *.m15

You might make a copy of that onto other media, as a contingency.

  • Also, make sure that you download the repaired copy of Mnyob99.dll described in the first sticky post "Important patch..." and replace the installed copy in MnyCoreFiles (hidden system folder). It may be that you have run into the corrupt transaction condition that causes the file to not open.
