Could you please tell us the product information you installed? Visual C++ Redistributable or others?
0x80240017 is usually about Windows update, usually happens on Win 7 or Wi 8,1. you could tell us your OS version so that we could have more detailed information about this issue.

which is similar as yours, please have a try with Roberts solution:
Make sure that KB2919442, KB2919335 and KB2999226 are installed well on your computer.
Then reboot your machine to perform a new installation.
