HP Pavilion g6 series laptop - Error message Windows 7 Build 1907 is not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

For about two weeks now I've frequently been receiving an error message indicating "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine" on my HP Pavilion g6.  I followed MS instruction to resolve the issue.  The last couple of days MS did not resolve the problem but, wanted me to purchase a new one.

  • Sorry - I tried to fix the HTML coding in your post, and failed dismally - but at least it's no worse!

Your problem is that you appear to have reinstalled teh OS using retail media and teh OEM_SLP Key - you need to change the Key to the one on the COA sticker, and activate that.

    • You can reactivate your Windows 7 installation by performing the following:

    1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in: slui.exe 3 and click on the icon that appears.

    2. Type in your Windows 7 25-character product key that is affixed to your HP computer.

    3. Follow the instructions for phone activation (no charge).

  • Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt

Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc

(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar

    net start sppsvc

    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.

You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.

If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

  • The problem that I have with that is on this laptop, I can not clearly identify three or four of the letters (R or B).  I have what I think are the numbers but if I'm wrong how much more will that screw things up.

I backed up the laptop about 2 months ago.  Should I do a restore.  If I restore my backup will it change/delete the work that I've done since that backup?

  • If you restore a backup, you normally lose everything done since that backup.

You can keep trying variations on the theme for your Key - you get as many tries as you need (I've had to try over 50 variations before now befoe I got the right one in a similar situation)

It doesn't usually cause too many problems (apart from eye-strain!)

  • That looks fine, apart from one residual error which you can clear by validating at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate

(If Chrome barfs on it, try using Internet Explorer instead)

  • This seems to take me back to a couple of weeks ago when I would get the windows 7 not genuine message where I follow this same validating.  The issues was fixed (genuine again) and MS want me to download security essentials antivirus program.  I have AVG and thought that would cause some conflict.  The Windows 7 not genuine message would appear the next day and the frequency increased until it didn't fix the problem.

Should I download  MS security essentials antivirus program?  If I should, how do I identify which Windows 7 I have 32-bit or 64-bit?

  • (Damn! - went and closed the window before my carefully-crafted response finished sending!)

MSE works fine for 99% of people - so does AVG.

I stopped using AVG (free) some time ago, when I decided that it was getting to intrusive, and slowing my machine down. MSE is a lot lighter, and there's no annoying popups :) Since I used to actually be an agent for Grisoft (as it was then) I also decided that I couldn't sell it any more.

If you do decide to change, you MUST run teh appropriate AVG removal tool...

Download the AVG Remover from here http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities Follow the instructions for running it, and then  reboot the machine (whether it asks for it or not, and whether the program rebooted already or not).

  • Hi Noel,   How do I identify which Windows 7 I have 32-bit or 64-bit?  I  don't use the free version of AVG.

  • Your report indicates 64-bit  <Architecture>x64</Architecture>

The MSE download page will mormally give you the right one anyhow (I think the download stub installs on both)
