Want to move CRM & SQL Server to another physical location - Same Domain, different subnet - any issues?

Question
-
Our CRM setup is 2 servers: a CRM 4.0 Server and an SQL2008/SSRS Server.
I have learned that we will have to move the CRM Server and SQL database Server to another physical location.
- This site will have the same domain, but a different subnet.
I have looked through the various knowledgebases and there are articles about redeploying to a new server, redeploying databases etc - we don't want to do any of that, simply move the Servers and get them working with minimum downtime.
- Can it be as simple as moving the Servers to the new site and switching them on?
- What are the pitfalls we should be aware of?Appreciate any advice!

I think that if your DNS entries are updated fast enough, there shouldn't be any trouble...

Friday, April 9, 2010 12:39 PMModeratorTHe main thing to upate are your dns entries.
What we have done in the past is to temporarily change your dns soa time to live to be just a couple minutes. This will slightly increase load in your dns servers, but everyone will be refresh quickly so when you update your dns there is very little time to wait. AFter the server is moved, change the dns ttl backt o normal.

I have the same issue, I have to move 3 servers, without any help for the current vendor, and I hope it will be so simple as to plug in and the website is up. I'll create a full backup, we have the domain, but the subnet will have to change. Can you help me to figure out where can I update the dns entries, and any other help will be greeatly appreciated. Thanks for all ideas!Thursday, July 22, 2010 9:46 PM
