Mismatch in system files should be because I just installed one of today's Windows patches and still have to reboot!

    Thanks in advance!

  • Boppu,

Unfortunately @ this point I do not have any other suggestions. Your Office products appear to be genuine and I do not know as why you would receive the Office Genuine Star. One reason would be a previous non-genuine version that was installed on your system but you said no other versions of Office have been installed. You had mismatched files and then replaced them. Next you also mention tweaking files in the registry. Honestly at this point resolving the problem could be almost like locating a needle in a haystack. I understand there is quite abit of work involved with backing up data and then reinstalling Windows and all other programs. This may be the best logical move at this point.

You could visit http://support.microsoft.com/ and open a support request as another alternative to reformatting.

    Thank you Boppu,

  • Hello Boppu,

Thank you for posting in our OGA Forums today. I noticed you have many mismatched files. Please see here:

    File Scan Data-->
    File Mismatch: C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe[5.1.2600.5512]
    File Mismatch: C:\WINDOWS\system32\licdll.dll[5.1.2600.5512]
    File Mismatch: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe[5.1.2600.5657]
    File Mismatch: C:\WINDOWS\system32\crypt32.dll[5.131.2600.5512]
    File Mismatch: C:\WINDOWS\system32\setupapi.dll[5.1.2600.5512]

    File Mismatch: C:\WINDOWS\system32\syssetup.dll[5.1.2600.5512]

You may have to back up all of your files and perform a complete re-installation. First I would like you to follow the below steps to see if this can resolve your problem.

Open My Computer located on your desktop.

    Go to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\

NOTE:  The application data file may be hidden. Use the Tools drop down menu do the following: Folder Options->View->Hidden Files and Folders->Show Hidden Files and Folders to show the folder. Please re-hide the files once you have completed all the steps.

Right click data.dat file, then click Delete.

The data.dat file is for Office, Not OGA.

Once the file has been deleted, open an Office application such as MS Word and activate it.

If product activation was successful try the Office Validation located here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/Validate.aspx?displaylang=eng

  • Thank you for posting back Boppu :-). You may want to completely reformate your system @ this point. There may be other things occurring which you do not know. Please back up all of your data, pictures, email contacts, email etc. Post back and let us know how things go :-).

    Take care,

  • I'm trying every possible solution for avoiding formatting, Stephen :-) It took so long time for installing all the programs I have...

I think it's still possible. This is why:

    1. I've restored the system with the ASR and now there's no mismatching files;
    2. I've uninstalled the OGA notifier and now I'm back at the situation where you just have the OGA activex (still have to apply the patch KB949810). And validation is fine and don't have the star in my tray, now.

I'll post the last mgdiag report, so that you can see. Just notice, please, that i get the star just when I install the mentioned patch (when you have OGAverifier.exe in the automatic tasks). This makes me think there's something wrong with some service startup, since star appears just after rebooting and, I guess you know, the above task in executed as "nt authority\system" account...

    Ciao and thanks again

  • Boppu,

Everything now looks good bases on the latest MGA Diagnostic results. Curious have you ever had any other versions of Office installed? Also when was the last time you have ran an Antivirus or other Antimalware scans on your system? Please do this and let's see what happens if anything. Post back and let us know.

    Thank you,

    Stephen

  • Thanks Stephen.

I've never had another version of Office installed. But since I'm used to tweak the registry for improving the system or whatever, and having deleted some registry keys trying to troubleshoot the OGA problem, I've copied them from another system (have to check wich version of Office). And that's probably what you're thinking... (?)

I usually, periodically run the MS malware removal tool, and it's not many days ago i did it with the last version. Do you mean I should do it again and launch the MGA again? What do you think is wrong?

Last (but not least :-) ) the MS Italian call center verified my office is genuine. Hope somobody won't think I'm a cracker!

    Thanks again for replying,

    Roberto
