Remote Access Anomaly RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running WHS with PP3 on a home built rig.  This server has been running for at least 18 months.  I have the IP address of the Server fixed at 192.168.1.50.  I have Verizon FIOS service and am using the Standard FIOS Actiontec Router and am forwarding ports 80,443,4125 to the WHS at 192.168.1.50

Remote Access has always worked just fine including getting normal responses from the WHS Console.  The other day I opened the Remote Access panel in the WHS Console Settings panel.  As per normal it started a "Verifying Connection" and after a bit came back with "Remote Access Not Available".  I clicked on Repair - it went through the first two tests just fine and then failed on "Verifying that your Remote Web Site is available from the internet".  Tried a couple of time to no avail.  In that same panel clicking on Domain Name Details showed everything normal including "Verifying Remote Access is available from the internet".

I then called a friend of mine and asked him to try to access my WHS using the URL referenced in Domain Name Link in the console.  He was able to access it and log in with no problems.
Now I am perplexed as to why I am getting an error from the WHS Console but Remote Access seems to be working just fine.  I have not been able to find a similar report of this issue.  Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this behavior?
    Thank you,
    Larry

  • I've seen this check fail transiently at times.

I wouldn't worry about it as long as it is working. Verizon could have a
    temporary glitch.

Some portions of Verizon's network block port 80 access inbound. I don't
know whether they do that for FIOS customers in the same geographic areas
    (mainly east-coast.)

If that's the case, you just have to use HTTPS for the initial
connection--but it sounds like you don't have this issue.
