Falied Validation after FOUR years of use!? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Tried to download the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector, and needed to go through the valiadation check ... no problem ... have been through it many times before (live updates etc etc). Only to get told I hadn't activated my Office Suite. I have done this ... FOUR years ago!?!?!Each time I try and RE-activate it though (Manually through the Help menu)... I get  a dialogue box stating 'This product has already been activated'!?!?! Very confused.

I'm running Office 2003, but the validation results states that my Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 passes, but 'Microsoft Office XP Professional:
Validation Incomplete: Office Must Be Activated' .... I don't have it installed??  I'm very confused.

Have run the diagnostic tool .. and here are the results:

I understand the inconvenience you are currently experiencing and would like to provide available options we have for assisting customers to address issues they are currently experiencing. Attached below is a Knowledge Base (KB) article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301. This will allow you to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and explain detailed information. Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and uninstall all Microsoft Office programs on your computer, then reinstall Microsoft Office using the genuine MS Office installation CD and product key.

If you are still having issues, can you do the following?
    1) Logon to the PC that is experiencing the notifications as a user with “ADMINISTRATOR” privileges.
    2) Download the tool: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 click RUN.
    3) When the tool loads, click “CONTINUE”.
    4) Is the “RESOLVE” button available? If so, please click “RESOLVE” to allow the diagnostic tool repair the issue.
    5) From the Windows tab, click the COPY button.
    6) Please reply back to this post and PASTE the entire results into reply of this post.
We can take a look at it and offer you some suggestions as to how to resolve this issue.

  • Gifted,

I understand the inconvenience you are currently experiencing surrounding Office activation. In turn I would like to provide the following steps to try and resolve the issue. Please follow the steps to attempt resolving this issue.  Open My Computer located on your desktop

    1. Go to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\

NOTE:  The application data file may be hidden. Use the Tools drop down menu and follow:  Folder Options->View->Hidden Files and Folders->Show Hidden Files and Folders to show the folder. Please re-hide the files once you have completed all the steps.

    2. Right click the data.dat file, then click “Delete”.
    3. This data.dat file is for Office (not OGA)
    4. Once the file has been deleted, open an Office application such as MS Word and “ACTIVATE” it.
    5. If product activation was successful try the Office Genuine Advantage (OGA). Please launch the following link and begin the OGA process again: (this is the OGA part; Office Genuine Advantage):  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/Validate.aspx?displaylang=eng

The following Knowledge Base Articles can provide more information for Office Activation issues:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903275/en-us
Here you will find links for various resolutions which you may encounter. Also reference the following site for various telephone activation centers:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851. Please re-post here should you need further assistance.

Did this work?  I look forward to the outcome at your earliest opportunity.

    Thank you

  • Hi Stephen,

    BRILLIANT!

This time, when I visited Microsoft to download the Outlook Connector, the validation 'bit' just ran very quickly ... as I expected it to the first time I tried. I was able to download and use the new plugin! Smile

Well done. Not sure what the problem was ... but hey! I don't really care now! (Not being that clever about computers!)

Re point 4 above ... I had already validated my 2003 Office product years ago, so this was never the issue. It was bizarre that my PC was failing validation of Office XP. Does that even exist?? All I know it's never been on my machine!

Hey ho ... job well done ... I'm a happy camper now!

    Cheers
