WGA says my copy of Office 2007 is not genuine, but I only have Office 2003 (genuine) installed

Question
-
My PC running Vista Home has a genuine copy of Office 2003 installed on it. All of a sudden WGA dialog has started appearing, and upon validation it indicates that my copy of Office is not genuine and will be disabled in 5 days. I have the original Office CD with License Key. I have installed it on other machines in the past, but those machines are now defunct (recycled) so I thought it would be legal to install Office on my new computer - is this correct?
I am seeking advice on how to validate my copy of Office 2003. I'm most confused by the fact taht WGA is saying Office 2007 is not valid, it is not referring to Office 2003 at all.
thank you.Friday, October 2, 2009 9:35 PM

The report is telling us that you have a nongenuine installation of a Volume Licensing-only edition of Office 2003 Pro. Your installation was done with a now-blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK).
Volume Licensing editions of Office such as your installation of Office 2003 Professional are not to be sold to individual consumers, and are only to be sold to larger businesses, educational institutions, and governmental agencies who need flexibility in installing and deploying many copies of Office.
These Volume Licenses should not be sold to consumers because they are not permanent licenses; they are subject to a current Volume Licensing Agreement that has a finite term, sort of like a lease. Consumers thinking they purchased permanently licensd software would understandably be upset when their software stopped working at the end of a lease.
If you purchased Office 2003 Professional thinking you were buying genuine retail Office Professional for consumers with a permanent license, please return the software to the place of purchase for replacement or a full refund.

Thank you for this information - that was not what I expected. Could this mean I have a counterfeit copy?Sunday, October 4, 2009 7:23 AM

Hello dubjbl,
At the moment all I can tell is that you have a nongenuine installation.
"Counterfeit" means that you have materials that are made to appear like a genuine item, but are not.
What materials do you have? If you have one or more program CDs, a Certificate of Authenticity, retail or OEM packaging, etc, please visit www.howtotell.com to learn about how to compare the "real McCoy" to the fakes.
