Points now split between Microsoft Answers and Technet RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been active on multiple forums, and up to now the points have been accumulating in one pool for both Microsoft Answers and Technet forums.  Today they seem to be split apart.

    I know the points don't mean much of anything, but I was approaching 7500 points (4 medals) within a month or two, and now I'm reset back to where it'll take me much longer to reach that milestone on either of the two forums.

    Was the change intentional?

  • Yes, the change was intentional though I don't know if this has been posted publicly anywhere (yet).

    You now have one set of points for MS Answers and another for MS Forums (i.e., MSDN; TechNet; Expression).

    Consequently, those posting in both "brands" will have two (2) separate Profiles now, too: One for MS Answers (e.g. http://social.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=Noel+Carboni) and one for MS Forums (e.g., http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=Noel+Carboni).

    [What were they thinking?]

  • Thanks.

    I have a suspicion that they were having troubles where changes to one forum kept breaking the other, and vice versa.  This keeps that from happening.

  • Any ideas why this was done? I was also a bit confused this morning, but figured it out myself.

    @MSFT

    please make an announcement about his change!

    yeah.  here's another thread where the OP is not concerned with points.

    we should get rid of them altogether.  that would solve everything.

  • Thanks for the insights.

    The points just add an extra little fun aspect to helping people.  I'm really participating here owing to selfish motives, as I find helping people facilitates my own learning of new things.

  • I also noticed another thing, I may be wrong. Earlier Recent Visitors, Recent MOderators, Top Answers, Top Microsoft Answers and Top MVP Answeers in sub forum also. Now they have disappeared, only on root level foum they are appearing. Have they removed intentionally or still in process will appear in couple of days?

    Wonderful, an early bird announcement looks somewhat different.
